So I asked about the Bachmann 2-8-0 and its factory installed decoder, what I meant to ask is what decoder is in the Bachmann 4-8-4 and again how can I control both head and rear light independently. Ya-ll are right the 2-8-0 does not have a rear light on it.
Ok, but still need more information. What type of controller are you using? Is the loco the Spectrum 4-8-4 with DCC on board or the 4-8-4 DCC with sound? One is the Lenz (no sound) type decoder, the other a Tsunami decoder specifically made for Bachmann. The more info you are willing to share, the more likely people will respond.

this is the standard 4-8-4 locomotive that was released with DCC on board. I am using a MRC prodigy Advanced as my power.
Bachmann decoders are very basic and dont allow for independant control of the front and rear light. They are directional, and you can choose a Function to dim them, but no option for independant control.
Unfortunately, if you want this feature, you will have to upgrade to a better decoder.
3 key features the Bachmann Decoders fail to haveā¦
-
Speed table (you cannot speed match them)
-
Light function mapping (only directional available).
-
No silent motor control.
