I purchased this item and was intending on bidding on other Woodland Scenics items she had. I usualy search for items that are ending within min.
well I missed out on some of her listings. So when I sent payment through paypal, I asked If any items had not sold, and she said everything sold except a package of WS trees. She claimed she would put them in the package with my item. I responded by telling her to let me know what I owed her and I would once again pay with paypal. THIS WAS THE RESPONSE FROM THIS LADY!!
"Nah, in fact, I told my husband before the auction even ended that if that one thing didn’t sell, I was going to put it into someone’s box because I didn’t want to relist it. I don’t have a line on models or model parts, so it’s yours. It’s already packed in your box - and it’s even going air letter. You should have it in a few days. I was looking at your stuff. Those models you build and sell are awesome! I wish you would have got in on my other auctions for the HO’s. "
Thank you for your business,
Cyndi Wilson
GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN!!! so please, don`t condem a system because of a few bad apples, and also please deal with this person if she has anything you need!!!
A lot of people seem to have trouble with eBay, and can only say bad things about it. All I can say is, if it wasn’t for eBay, I wouldn’t have some of the great engines I have today.[:D]
I have never used ebay i just browse but I am thinking of bidding on a few items this week (They are what i model) So i cant say ebay is bad or good. Glad you had a good deal go through!
there is a lot of disscussion about ebay here. Sure you can have a bad experience but that can happen anywhere. I have had an almost perfect ebay experience and that includes over 200 purchases.
For long as I can remember hobby shops in north alabama are few and far between. So for me it has been a godsend, I can find anything I want and usually at a good price. If you take your time and check feedback of the sellers its hard to go wrong.
I too am optomistic about Ebay, but gaurded. I don’t know what you paid but I bought that WS model at a flea market for a dollar. Of course that was quirk.
I am the notorious eBay Seller (and a dreaded PowerSeller at that! Boo!! Bah!!!)
Thank you, stripes2 for the kind words. I try to do right by everyone!! I’ve never really dealt with any models or model kits, but happened to run across a nice batch of them recently. I guess I’ll be on the lookout for more since there’s such a nice following for them.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself as far as eBay is concerned. I, too, have had negative buying experiences and you just have to be careful and use the tools that are available to try to screen out the good from the bad. If you are apprehensive, email the seller a question and see if and when it gets answered. Check their feedback profile and see how they conduct business.
Good luck with all your dealings and finding those treasures!!
Hey, Stripes - I did find a couple of old HO things in my storage area. Still in their boxes too. I’ll try to send you off a picture when I can get a chance and see if it’s something you can use. [:)]
Take care out there in model building land!!!
Kind regards,
The Notorious eBay PowerSeller - [:p]
I paid around 8 bucks + shipping , BUT the LHS wanted 16.99 for the same thing. it is the only train store within 100 miles, so I am wicked happy!
It is going on the hillbilly diorama I am building. Wa Hoo! yA`LL
I’ve had mostly positive experiences with eBay myself. It’s a great resource. It is a little like gambling in that you don’t know the outcome before you commit the funds… But, there are some things on eBay that just can’t be found anywhere else.
you know, I am also at around 200 transaction spread over a number of years. If you are patient, avoid obvious pitfalls as has been discussed many times before, e-Bay can be very rewarding. Almost all of my laser wood kits on my layout came from e-bay at well below list. I am yet to have a truly bad experience and if and when I do, it will be far outweighed by the good experiences. I’ve had some deals I wish I had not done, like buying used, built up structure kits, but I got what I paid for and have decided not to do that again.
I understand why some don’t want to use ebay and thats fine. It’s up to each of us to decide where and how we are going to spend our hard earned dollar. My feeling about e-bay is that for every “bd” deal, or crooked seller that we here about here there are thousands of perfectly good transactions that take place.
ive had some good ebay experiences. ive met a very helpfull guy, you can find him on the new haven railroad fourm, as Michael 78651. i won my first ebay loco off him, and he has been a major source of knowledge and help for me.

i remember i bought so buildings off of ebay and the guy was supose to send me about 3 buoidlings and he gave me about 5 i thanked him for the extra stuff… ebay can be very kind to you most of the time
My ebay experience has overall been very good! Got some quality locomotives, and even a Walthers Car Shop kit (retired 2 years ago by Walthers) at great prices. So far I have a 100% postive feedback rating. I usually pay with cashier’s checks.
Simon 1966’s advice is good to follow about being careful and avoiding the pitfalls.
I had one very uncomfortable situation with an ebay vendor which has been resolved. I have had a whole bunch of very cool transactions. My biggest issue with ebay is that I don’t have enough money! I really enjoy shopping for RR stuff and the excitement of the auctions I participate in.
I recently bought my MDC Shay in ebay. Found parts were missing (vendor didn’t know this), whined to the vendor who rooted around in his stuff and found them and has dropped them in the mail to me. He didn’t have to do that (imho) and I am very impressed. Another guy sold me a kit then discovered that parts were missing as he was packing it for shipping. He offered me a choice of other kits or a refund rather than ship me an incomplete kit.
I also have had a few good experiences. I sold some O narrow gauge stuff to a guy that I had built. Since then I have built a bunch of stuff for this same person and have made several thousand dollars dealing with him. I also purchased a Stewart/Kato F7B that came in broken. The guy refunded half of the money to me and then ended up selling me another A and B for $20 each! Needless to say, so far my eBay experience has been great.
