I have acquired a Bachmann Heisler I want to put KDs body mount s on it.
I looked at the bottom and there seems a lot of space that has to be filled in
in order to mount the couplers. Do they make a block or some thing to do this or is it left up to you ? I normally use Aristo couplers but mounting them requires a major effort to cut the metal stickey out things on the trucks and I
have bought some AC flat cars with KDS already on them
any and all help THANKS
Ed
I added an additional wood beam under the molded one, and attached a Kadee #1779 coupler to it.

For the front, I bent some brass strap into a “U” shape to attach the beam to the original pilot. For the rear, I simply bolted the new beam to the metal step casting, as shown here:

(Details on the loco can be found here:

Incidentally, if you’re using the “G” scale couplers as opposed to the smaller #1 scale couplers I use, the part number is #779. Both mounts appear to be identical. They have this really strange lip on the bottom side that I simply cut off, as it seems to serve absolutely no useful purpose.

Seems to me back when I had some Bachman I used the Kadee heigth to determan if it needed filled or notched in the frame. Once you do one or two its easy.
G is 1 1/8" center of coupler off rail. 1
#1 I’m not sure on.???
If you have tighter curves , #789s would well and give the wheels room and they have a wider swing.
