Ok.. how are you guys posting..

pictures within your threads? I’ve done the click on the little icon thingy, pasted the address of the photo in the box and hit ‘insert’. That didn’t work.

I tried doing it the old way by using the [img] tags in front and in back of the photos address, made sure I had .jpg in there also…

that didn’t work.

So what am I doing wrong? Oh, and trying the search function for ‘posting pictures’ … well, let’s just say it didn’t work either. Does it have anything to do with the ‘max size’ check box on the insert page?

Jarrell

EDIT: Jim supplied the answer. I was thinking the images showed when the ‘preview’ button was used but they don’t… least not for me and Jim anyway.

Not sure, Jarrell, but clicking and pasting from photobucket, using their img tagged url, has worked since day 1 for me. If you use photobucket, sliding the cursor from the thumb down to the lowest menu option, copying it, and pasting it here should provide all the server here needs when you paste it.

I have never used the icon thingy.

Do you have a photobucket account? That’s where many people go wrong. You need one to post on any forum.

Jarrell, I’ve found that you need to just keep doing it the way you’ve always done it. In my very few postings on the new forum, the images don’t appear when I try to preview my post. All I see is the text code jibberish. But they DO show up in the actual thread, so I just move ahead in faith that they’ll be there.

Jim

I just post them as I always have. Copy the IMG tag in photobucket and paste it into the composition screen here. I don’t use the forums ‘Insert Media’ box at all.

Jarrell,

The Insert Media icon method works for me. Like you, I can no longer post pictures using the older [img] method.

Tom

Further, I am using FireFox for most of my online surfing, but it won’t result in an active URL/link when I copy one and past it as the old software did for us here. If I want to link to a thread, for example, I actually have to position the [ and url] to get it active after I paste it in a text box.

You need to utilize the “direct link” and insert that in the media box if you’re using photobucket. IMG method doesn’t work for me anymore either.

Ahhh… that’s what it is! I’m relying on the image showing in the preview as in the olden days, thinking if they don’t show up there they’re not going to show in the final posted answer.

Thanks Jim!

Jarrell

Ok, I think Jim had the answer. Lets give it a try and keep the fingers crossed.

and it worked!

Jarrell

I usually right click on the picture and choose “properties” and get the URL from that, then paste it into the appropriate spot in the “insert media” pop-up…

Looks like you got it. Now you have to wake up the twin to the right. [|)]

Photobucket works for me…

See?

While I’m thinking about it, I’m going to test it out for myself.

Let’s see what happens

Alright! It worked!

I did notice that if you try to add your own img code that it doesn’t work like it used to. Rather than try to figure it out I just stick with ole photobucket like the others. [:D]

Jarrell:

Remember in the old film days when you had to use a mat box to do that?

I sure do! I think I still have one around here somewhere! [*-)]

Jarrell

The poor guys thinking, and that’s hard for him! [D)]

Jarrell

And that’s probably where my problem with it came in. I have another account besides Photobucket and you have to do it the old way, between the . And it don’t work so good that way.

Jarrell

Hi Jarrell, I use “photobucket” to Host my photos. You have named photos stored on a dedicated “My Albums” account. Some times you have to click on “Home”, in the upper left corner,to get to your My Albums". Below each photo are two options. Click on the IMG option and then click on Edit in the upper Tool Bar. Click on “Copy”. Then, go back to Trains.com/forums and either create a new thread, or Rely to some other thread. Instead of “Paste”, I use ctrl V, which does the same thing. The lengthy code for the photo will appear, after the Text that you have typed in. Scroll down to Post and click on it. The Text and photo should appear “momentarily” at the end of the Thread (if you are making a “Reply”). I am not pleased with the new way that you can Edit your Post. You click on “More” rather than the old “Edit” method, and, then, click on Edit. The lengthy code reappears along with the photo when you Post it. Perhaps, if you use the “Icon” method, this will not happen. Personally, I liked the old method much better. How can one post a series of photos, without going through all the “steps”, each time? Bob Hahn Darn it all ! Why does part of the “code” appear with the posted photo??? Give us back the “Old Method”!!!
