OK. I finally did it!!!!

I removed the 18" curve I have on my mainline & I’m replacing it with a 22" curve. [:)][:D][8D]
It wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m sure you’ll all agree that I’ve made a good decision.
Unfortunately, I had to remove about 9-11’ of track & roadbed, part of a tunnel & about 4 feet of subroadbed. UGH!![:(]

Ahh, but you will be much better off for it![:D] Think of all the improved operation you will enjoy with broader curves in place!
Congrats!

Good job. Unfortunatly I’m restricted to 18" curves only :frowning: oh well…
but i’m happy with 4 axle motive power

Wow, I’m glad I made that same decision BEFORE I laid my track instead of after.

Why Shawn?
My 6 axle power had no problems going around 18" curves. I made this curve larger so that I can hopefully run Walthers coaches around my layout.

I am in N-scale and consider 22" to be a decent radius for it! I’m going to use 15" as my real “minimum” radius; I’ve bought a few samples of Kato Unitrack at different radius in order to test the operation of my six-axle locos, and sure enough, anything below 15" results in a noticeable slow-down as then train corners. I know the equipment can negotiate tighter curves, but it just doesn’t look right to force an SD-45 or a C-628 through a 12" curve. For those of you in HO scale, this means you should be thinking about curves of 28" radius or more, wherever possible.

Or, just do the right thing, and switch to N-scale…

i switch from 18 to 22 and im happy i can run my sd70’s and walther autoracks now!
