OK Layout designers

Here’s a problem for you. I am in Moscow now and not sure where we will go after this. Maybe Beijing Maybe Baghdad but wherever we are we will have DPO (like APO) mail to use. I have put off building a layout with the excuse that we will be moving but I got to thinking about a small layout of maybe two modules that I can ship to wherever I go. The restrictions for DPO mail are 108 total inches and not more than 70 lbs per package. I was thinking about making a framework with a flat top and compartments under it to store the rolling stock and extras.

Any Ideas, thoughts, track plans I might use? Were getting ready to go to the states for Christmas and I will probably bring back a suitcase full of equipment and rolling stock. Please feel free to shoot holes in the idea. I would rather find out it won’t work now before I build it.

PS Might help if you know I model in HO.

What a cool idea. 2 inch foam in a light wood frame should do that. You could even built some foam mountains keeping the height factor within the shipping rules. There are any number of switching plans availible depending on how you weigh making buildings with laying track. Keep us posted, I am facinated by what you might do.

By the Way, I don’t know what you are doing there, but I probably should thank you for doing it.

Steve, You should get in touch with Dave Vollmer who frequents this forum. He is in the military and has much experience in this area. Check out his well traveled layout.
