OK, silly question, now I gotta ask

I just noticed along with ‘post count’ there is now a 'post rank" (or maybe it was there all the time and I never noticed). But the reason I am even posting this, is I noticed mine. After not even being here for 2 years, I’m still #4? LOL OK, I guess I make too many posts.

Don’t drag this thread out with post counts, I’m just mildly amused that I am so high still.

There’s a most active members list ranked by daily post counts. I’m glad I’ve dropped out of the top ten since I started working again!

Randy,

It pretty much means diddley squat…

Tom

Oh I see, this was just a trick because you’re #1. [:P] [:P] [:P] [:P]

I’m too old to be fooled that easily.

–Randy

And on the low end of 1…whatever that means…

Tom

Yeah, the new (?) post rank is a short-term thing. It’s not ordinal, so everyone is not “ranked” sequentially. There are a lot of ties. It’s so dang useless that I don’t even know mine.

Randy, welcome back, by the way. A few of us who are digitally savvy have tried to fill in, but man, like, you were always the real master at this stuff. Glad to have you back on board.

Yup. I’ve never gotten a button to wear on my hat, or a certificate to put on the wall. I dont’ even know why anybody would care about a post ranking- so the higher you are, the more time you spend on a computer instead of your hobby and your job- why would anybody want the world to know such a thing?

Where is that? Elliot used to be #1.

If you didn’t want that to happen you shouldn’t have opened the door. Posts like this always get tons and tons of responses. Which is interesting since I am finding it harder to find threads to post meaninful messages in. This is true even having recently expanded my regular reading to include the other Classic & Trains forums.

Well, some folks have to get their 15 minutes of fame someplace.

Back before the forum format was changed, post ranking was indicated by little colored stars under the poster’s name - like in kindergarten and grades 1-3. We’ve actually had people start threads with things like, “Hey, this is my (fill in large even number of choice) post.” The meaningless little blurb WAS that individual’s (fillinthenumber) post!

Randy, I know I’m late to the parade, but welcome back.

Actually no question is silly until you have a punchline, or did I miss that one? Anyway, after a long needed time off, I too have returned and feel as if things have improved. This is good! I will be in the neighborhood. EastCoast.

Randy–

Welcome back, I’ve missed you, too. So where do you go to find your post count or ranking? Now you’ve got me curious, since I’ve been posting so DARNED much since I retired, LOL!

Tom [:P]

Tom,

Click on your user name next to your post and look at the bottom of the page…by the way, you’re ranked at #4!

Don Z.

Don–

I’ve got to start WORKING in this hobby and just quit writing about it, LOL!

Tom [:P]

Tom,

I forgot about the bum knee…but since you can’t be on the creeper working, you’ll just have to live with being able to write about it for now and wait for the leg to mend…hope it’s soon! I’d be going stir-crazy if I was laid up like that.

Don Z.

I just looked and saw that my post rank is 1. Now I know I don’t post THAT much![(-D]

Sure you do [:D] You have 2000 more posts then Tom and he’s #1 too.

Obviously this is just a tiered system with ranges rather than an absolute count. There’s more forum software then there are brands of computers and every one does it differently.

Anyway it’s the quality not the quantity that count [:P]

–Randy

Just checked mine. I’m #128 so I guess that means I must still have a “life”! [(-D]

-George

Either that or it means that all your posts are to significant threads, really well thought out, relevant, accurate, with good spelling and grammar like mine[:-^]. Oh no, that can’t be since we both just posted in this thread! [}:)]

I got to 64, but don’t ask how. It just keeps tabs on things, kinda like the now gone stars we used to have.
