Ok Skilled Craftsmen! Point me in the direction of good brick sheeting

It is time to commence the scratchbuilding of my mine power house in HO.

The structure still stands and there is nothing close enough out there in kit form that can be a stand in. The place is just too recognizable to my viewing audience.

Who makes good brick pattern sheet styrene or other material? I have looked at some of the Plastruct product (specifically 91611) and the brick definition just does not seem very good to me. If it is all that is out there then I can use it. However I feel sure that there must be other products. All advice greatfully accepted!

Thanks.

walmart has some stuff in the craft dept. at least at my store.

They have a bunch a plastic sheets in various scales and did get a good product review in RMC sometime ago. Hope this helps.

Slater’s Plastikard can be gotten from International Hobbies in the US. It’s a British product, used all the time in Great Britain. It’s the standard material over there.

International Hobbies maintains a web presence at: http://www.interhobmodels.com/

You can get a look at what Slater’s Plastikard looks like at this website: http://www.horailroad.com/clinic1/cl1_02.htm The link just mentioned also gives another US supplier of Slater’s Plastikard. In this clinic at Ken Spranza’s site, he uses varieties of Plastikard. Photos of a partially completed HO scale brickchimney are here: http://www.horailroad.com/clinic1/cl1_22.htm and here: http://www.horailroad.com/clinic1/cl1_31.htm

Thanks all. Ed, the clinic links are excellent. I just spent the last hour poking around this site. Hopefully I can get the materials I need next week and get going the weekend after.

Walthers also makes some brick sheeting.

The DPM modular parts could work for you also, made right there in MO http://www.dpmkits.com/

Korber Models also makes modular parts. I’ve never ordered from them, and I’ve been unsuccessful at getting size information for the parts, but you can kind of eyeball them using the doors as a reference. The prices are good, and you can order just the parts you need.

They have a link which is supposed to give info about building with their modulars, but it doesn’t go anywhere and produces an error.

Has anyone every worked with these modular parts?

Micro-Mark sells paper that looks like brick in different colors. Detail is supposed to be raised to look like a real brick wall. I have not used any but plan to in the future. Jim

I have been thinking of ordering some in O scale[8D]. Please post your experience with it[:D]

I recently found Paper Creek Model Works
http://www.papercreek.com/

I wonder if you could take a good photo of the sides of the building and resize it and then print it out. Just a thought.

Thankyou

Paper Creek has excellent products. I have a couple of their N scale kits and their corrigated metal roofing. I didn’t know they make brick .

John Nehrich and the gang at the Rensselaer Model Railroad Club have developed a method to do essentially that.

They’ve published an article about it in the December 2001 Model Railroader: Brick Wall Decals, by John Nehrich and Lou Sassi.
