Hi Everyone! I have a question about Amtrak’s “Southwest Limited”, the predecessor to Amtrak’s current “Southwest Chief”. On November 13, 1978, Amtrak welcomed Mickey Mouse aboard as Mickey started a transcontinental train trip to celebrate his 50th birthday. Does anyone remember this particular event? What was the Amtrak consist? Was there a private car attached for the comfort of Mickey? Was Ward Kimball aboard this train? I have a special Amtrak menu that was issued for this event and I would like to learn more about the event itself. If anyone out there can help with information it would be appreciated. Thank You Everyone!
I cannot advise of the consist, the train was a special Amtrak train that traveled over a five day period from LA to New York that had scheduled 57 cities as a part of the tour. Yes Ward Kimball was on board accompanying Mickey Mouse. It terminated in New York at the theater where “Steamboat Willy” premiered taking credit as the place Mickey Mouse was born.
