old atlas s-2

can anybody help me i just purchased an old atlas ho s-2 diesel it was made in austria.no instruction sheets,i need to get to the motor and lights and cant for the life of me work out how to remove the cab and body shell, the base is solid metal…HELP.

The cab and hood are separate pieces that sort of interlock where they meet. The hood can be removed a lot easier than the cab, which tends to be a tight fit and has the handrails attached to it I believe. The light and motor are under the hood. Only the back truck is under the cab, so you may only need to remove the hood. There is a small tab in the front of the hood that hooks into the walkway, under the light. You need to unhook the tab part before you can undo the interlock with the cab.

To remove the hood, I place the loco between my thumb and middle finger and place my index finger on the shell under the light and gently but firmly press the shell to unlock the tab. It should separate from the cab fairly easily then and will reveal most of the innards.

To remove the cab, you need to remove any delicate handrails that may be in the way and then rock the cab back and forth as you lift up and it should eventually begin to separate from the base.

becareful of the handrails when you start squeezing.
