I just finished this barn in O scale. It’s all built from cardboard and paper. Fred
Amazing what imagination and talent can come up with. This is really great!
OK,…that’s it,…I’m hanging it up!
Seriously, Fred, that is very inspiring work. Did you use printed paper from a company like Paper Creek Model Works, or did you create your own? Whatever the case, it’s very nice work.
nice !
you should post a picture of this in all the threads that complain about how the hobby is geting too expensive [:)]
Yep I agree it looks great and cost next to nothing. I scratch built a factory on my layout as there was nothing on the market which filled the gap on my layout or looked like what I wanted. Used cardboard sheets, with plastic window frames; cheap and easy to make. (Although best viewed from the other side of the layout)

Very, very nice!!!
outstanding job almost looks like my 150 year old barn.
Thanks all!
No kits or printed papers were used. First I start with a corregated form and Elmers glue cardboard (cerial box type) cut into strips to it. It’s built a layer at a time that way. The roof was made by making a shingle template from cardboard and tracing it to copy paper which is then cut and glued on one shingle at a time just like real roofing. It took about 5 hours to cut and glue the roof. Painting is done with a heavy coat of dollar store gray primer followed by acrylic craft paints for color. I also use alcohol and ink for weathering. Than and some planning while I empty the corn flake boxes for raw materials. Fred
This is unfair, how in the world dose some one top this, I
ll just go and kick
the cat.
But, It is brilliant.
Regards,
Outstanding work, Fred! The only thing that would make this post any better is if you posted a link to a website that showed various progress photos of you building this barn!
Cardboard + Glue + Time + Work = Masterpiece !
Very nice ![8D][:)]
While I didn’t do a “step by” on this, I have done them in the past. Here’s a link to one… http://www.2guyzandsumtrains.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=712/start=0.html
For bigger pictures of the barn check here… http://www.2guyzandsumtrains.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=1068/start=15.html
We also have several how-to that may interest some folk… http://www.2guyzandsumtrains.com/
Thanks for all the positive comments guyz. Here’s a picture of the shed that the first link leads to. Fred
Fred,
Thank you so much for the links to your website! This is a wealth of useful “how-to” information. I think I’m going to give the ground foam a try. I like the scratch-built turntable, too!
On behalf of penny-saving modelers everywhere, thanks again!
