hi all, i am courious if the old blue box arhearn shells will fit onto newer, better chassis?? is what im wanting to do is put the shells of the athearn sw 1500 cow and calf (more so the calf) onto something like the proto 2000 or equivilant with the dcc and sound. will they fit without major modifaction??? thanks…u.p. fan
I doubt very much that those old Athearn Blue Box shells will fit anything made today – not even a new Athearn.
Athearn has the SW1500 in Ready to Run. This is an improved chassis, with a SW1500 shell already. I cannot recall these with a cow and calf arrangement so are you talking about an SW7 that Athearn labeled as a SW1500 for many years? The Proto early SW shell is more detailed than the Athearn shell. Most people interested in the blue box SW7 repower the original chassis. The shells themselves are scale width unlike most blue box locomotives making them worth the effort to many.
