Old body on new chassis?

Good evening,

I have an old Athearn F-7A and was wondering if the body would fit ,with modifications, on a new Bowser-Stewart F-A chassis that is equiped with Tsunami sound. I think the Athearn is from the very late 1970s or early 1980s. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

It might. I previously had a project going the other way - I had a spare Stewart B-unit shell and an old Athearn Heavyweight F unit powered chassis. To fit the Stewart shell I had to cut away a lot of the chassis weight, going the other way with an Athearn shell on a Stewart chassis I would think if anything it will be a loose fit and you would need to fabricate some sort of tabs to screw the shell on.

It is a trial and error effort at best since you can’t see what is interfering if it does. You can only approximate where it is happening. That being said F unit shells don’t have any baffles or protrusions so it should be a fairly easy effort.

I too think it may be possible.

I have an old Athern GP-9 shell that I put on a Life-Like PK2 GP-20 chassis with QSI decoder. It fit just fine. I had to cement a plastic bar across the front and rear foot boards under the coupler to hold the shell on.

Thanks guys, guess I’ll give it a try. Need a challenge now and then.
