Got a bunch of old sets from my dad recently and I’m stuck trying to figure out one of the old Lionel sets that he has.

Everything is in the original box, track, transformer, rolling stock and all the boxes, what I don’t have is the steam engine and the tender, I have the box that they came in but I don’t know what unit goes with this kit. He used to take the engines and tenders and display them on his wall so I have a bunch of different units and no idea what goes with this kit.

Can anyone help me figure this out please?

Without pictures or model stock numbers, most people are are not going to be able to guess what you have.

Just saying it’s old Lionel HO scale is nowhere near enough of a description.

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have the box the original SET came in, with the set number on it? That would make figuring out the proper loco fairly easy. If you do not, list the cars and accessories that came in the set, someone can work from there. If he added stuff to the original set the second option will be a little more difficult.

Sorry, I was waiting to hear back on some of these numbers.
The main box has this on the side: Steam Freight Set, No. 5731
The box for the engine and tender is: 0625LT
The other boxes are labeled as:
0805-1 Seaboard Radioactive Waste Flatcar
0806 Flatcar with Helicopter
0880 Maintenance Car
0814-200 Transport Car
0817-300 Caboose

Cool link, thanks! I have 4 Southern Pacific sets here, does anyone know the number on the side of the engine that belongs to this set? I can’t make it out in this picture that the link takes me to.

The loco number is 0625.

Do not modify them in any way. Some of those old Lionels are bringing pretty good money.

Thanks everyone. Found the right engine for the kit. I’m just going to dust it off and pack it up. The kit is complete from the outer box to the tracks that came with it to the transformer. I think this is one that I will have to part with, I’m more of an “O” gauge fan.
