Hey guys, I was wondering what those who have dabbled into HO have done, or are doing with the old HO since returning to or starting into O? I have some really nice stuff, like a riverossi UP Big Boy (wonder if they paid the royalty), but I digress. I was thinking of running an outsice loop to give a sort of forced perspective. I may also give a bunch of the old stuff away as I don’t see much value in these sets. Any suggestions?

Hi Dennis: As you will probably know, from some of my posts, that I was an HO ‘nut’ for nearly 50 years. Now, I am into Lionel O. This is what worked for me: I took an inventory of what I had. First of all, my very favorite items were packed away. Next, I separated the working stuff from the, what I used to call my “Hold-on-to-it-you-never-know-when-you-will-need-it” non-working stuff. Of the working stuff, the newer less expensive stuff was either given to the neighborhood kids or to a local charity. The salvageable pieces and the older working stuff was put on E-Bay. Proceeds from the E-Bay sales have gone into my current Lionel purchases. (I had considered the possibility of an ‘outside loop’ but my layout space is at a premium) A museum is a great idea for better older items! Anyway, that is my 2 cents.
well I kept all my engines…did a nice display with them, as for the rolling stock everything has been donated.
Still have also a transformer and a double loop of tracks…who know maybe 1 day I will run them again.
I still have most of my childhood HO stuff. Maybe one day I’ll display them in a diorama or something. I’m using the HO rails now to build bridges.
Run them once in awile. I’ve collected a bunch of Bachmann E-Z track over the years. Every now and then I set up a couple big loops on the floor and run my HO stuff. I enjoy the quiet, slow running HO trains as a break from loud, fast O gauge trains. Trains are trains no matter what size they are.
I’m working on an HO addition to my O layout based on the old Lionel display layouts that had HO, too. I’m installing an elevated HO oval using 15 inch radius Snap Track curves and adding one spur. The spur and outer part of the oval sits on top of the tunnels over the O loops. So that gives me 2 O trains and 1 HO running at the same time on a 4x8. Toy trains at their best! Even better, with the HO track I can run some of the small On30 as a narrow gauge instead of HO. I’m with Paul, can’t get enough trains.
Also installing the HO as an experiment to see which the kids (12 and 10) prefer.
