Thanks to the forum thread that gave me this idea. What do you do with your old GR issues? Maybe you can share a creative (or space saving?) idea.
Mag goes into the magazine holders. pull out plans into a seperate folder, one day if I ever have enough of an outside layout big enough to speak of, I’ll build a few of them!
I give the old issues to people who stop to see my garden rail road and ask where i get some of my ideas from ,and hope to get a new person into GARDEN RAILROADING. I
ALSO get ideas from other G R R PEOPLE and pass it along. ben
Hey there,
As I put in my other post. The pull out plans get pulled out and filed. As for the old issues…just stacked for now. Now…how to store them??? Later eh…Brian.
Actually, keep them for reference and pass them along to friends, usually with the idea that I’d get them back at some point. Unfortunately, over the years, I’ve managed to lose track of years 88 - 92. So, I’m now a bit less inclined to lend them out without electronic surveillance. [;)]
They’re still great reads, and full of ideas even 20+ years later. Now, if I can only find a miniature deadbolt, I can get my switch stands going.
Later,
K
Hi all,
I keep the old issues and I put a post-it-note on the front of each issue to remind me of tip or article that I wanted to refer to in the future.
Happy Railroading,
Ron
[:)]
I keep mine for reference in a drawer specially built for magazines in the reading room[:I]
Kev- I have some from 91 and 92 you can have.
Want 'em?
TOC
To be more precise, Nov-Dec 89, Sept-Oct 90, Nov-Dec 90, Sept-Oct 91, Nov-Dec 91, and Sept-Oct 92.
Here is a stupid question, Does the G RR mag help those who are indoor? I know this section has been a great help to me, but can’t really say I looked at the mag…
Of course, just for the point, I do not really look at any magazines in general… I dislike having magazine subscriptions since PC Gamer, and my local wal-mart doesn’t seem to carry it. (or they are just always out)
I’m indoor. In fact, right now, in the closet[xx(] I like my GR magazine!
They feature indoor stuff on a rare occasion. Try Barnes and Nobel or Borders they usally have it as well as some local hobby shops.
I keep mine. Hey guys, those of you with storage problems, read it closer; They make neat binders for them that can hold a year or more in one hardcover book; and there is usually an ad for them in each issue.
At first, I thought Rene was just trying to stir up some business for the company so they could sell some of those binders, but she has remained blessedly silent about them despite the obvious openings in postings for such a rejoinder; so, I’ve done it for her since nobody else has mentioned them! I had them before I ever had any track down!
I keep mine because I’m a keeper of things. When my subscription is renewed, I get a GR binder same as I do for Model RRer. I keep the pull out plans in the magazines, 'cuz they’re never the right scale anyway and the mag people refuse to put real sizes on the dimension sheet,.
I do like the idea of giving them to potential club members, though.
I stuff mine into a file box. Outside the box I put a little “computer form printout” from my own database that tracks the type articles I’m most interested in.
Capt–Didn’t have a hidden agenda here. Different folks have different methods in which they prefer to store their old mags (of any title). The binders are nice, but I’ve heard that some people will cut up their issue [:0] and file just the articles they find interesting. Whatever works for you.
Binders and magazine rack/holders, pull-outs in a notebook. Have all ready built on or two plans. Someday when I am sure I’m not going to be moving within two or three months, I’ll build some more.
Keep mine in either plastic / or/ cardboard fold up magazine holders.
Office Depot, Office Max, & Staples, just to name a few, usually have them two or three times a month in the discount area for a dollar or two. Same with some of my MR issues.
I keep mine in magazines holders. Everyone is always VERY helpful and there is always something interesting in them, whether it be a railroad, project or whatever, all are worth keeping!
Magazine holders can be bought pretty cheaply at Staples or Office Max. Something like three or four bucks apiece.
Mark
Thanks for the tip[;)]
