Old locomotives seen in Burlington, IA 9-30-11. Primer painted and labeled BN 922570 & 71? Where have they come from. Where are they going? What fate awaits?

Victrola1:

The numbers you provided, I thought Kinda resembled MOW type numbers. Did a little looking around and found the following information:

(linked) BNSF Diesels ( now called Power cars by BNSF) From a list of Rotary Snow Plows: http://www.membrane.com/~elmer/rail/units/rotaries.html#3

Check link to Power Cars: ( cut/pasted from the website Motive Power Review)

BN 972570 F9A (ex BN 784, ex BN 9818, ex NP 6704C, nee NP 7011D) Minot, ND
BN 972571 F9A (ex BN 812, nee NP 7003A) Minot,N.D.

That seems to answer the part of your question where they were from.

Now as to where they were going??? I’ll leave that to another Fourmist to post.[:-^]

Hope that helps!

I believe they will end up at Relco in Albia, IA for refurbishing.

I think it was last year Relco there did work on the BNSF Rotary plows.

Jeff

Ok: am I the only one hoping they return in fresh BNSF paint?
