Old Magazines

I get a lot of interesting info and ideas from old magazines–I mean ooollld! Anyone have a source for Model Builder or Toy Trains magazines? Not a lot on ebay, and I don’t seem to see them at shows any more.

There are digital versions of these magazines available from Hybrid Systems Ltd.Inc

I have the Toy Trains Archive. Its a great resource. I have almost the full runn of the magazines, but I prefer to use the disc to prevent from damaging the magazines. There are pretty fragile.

will check it out; that sounds great, at the equivalent of a dollar per issue. Still wouldn’t mind a source for the mags themselves to complete my set; I am missing about 1/3 of the issues.

Now what about Model Builders?

Every now and then, people that I know come across binders full of old train and model railroad magazines put out for collection. We have a couple of large “age restricted” communities in my area and between the cops, EMT,public works, water, sewer, postal, gas and electric workers that I know keep me in mind. Next time I get some I will post them for whoever is interested in them.

I have most of the Model Builders from 1938-46 and a few from the last couple of years. They are a GREAT resource for everything! I bought most of mine off Ebay and frankly the condition was not important to me since I wanted the info more than the collectability of the mag. I finally had to force myself to look at it as though I was comparing their price to a new CTT or something. I actually was more excited about my old Model Builders coming int he mail than the new CTT’s!!

Northwoods Flyer,

Thank you for the mention. I appreciate your comments and support!

stuartmit,

The Model Builder Digital Archive is progressing nicely. The first volume will be finished late spring. It will consist of the first half of the 80 issue run (issues 1 -40) plus the initial issue entitled Model Engineer. It will also contain the entire 192 page book entitled “HANDBOOK for MODEL BUILDERS”. This first release is already scanned and the basic framework is in place. All that remains are the finishing touches, approvals (it is a Lionel Officially Licensed Product) and production. The second release will be completed sometime this summer. For about the price of 10 - 12 single issues on eBay (I find they typically sell for about $10 each), you will have the entire run available in pristine condition! Plus, they will be searchable, printable, etc.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any additional questions. Full details are on our web-site at the address Northwoods Flyer provided.

Thanks for the info–really look forward to that.
