Old Milwaukee Road Question

History books indicate that in the 1850s, the Milwaukee & Mississippi and the LaCrosse & Milwaukee ran parallel from Elm Grove, WI to Brookfield Jct, WI. The old L&M abandoned grade is still visible in Elm Grove and is in the woods to the left (west) of the present CP eastbound track, which history books say is the original M&M line. Since the original M&M turned west at Brookfield and the L&M turned northwest toward Watertown, the lines would have crossed somewhere between Elm Grove and Brookfield. Does anyone know the location of the old diamond?

The L&M was not a long lived entity. Does this map help?

1857 map

Thanks for the map Convicted One. I found another detailed map under the following link that is an 1873 plat map of the Town of Brookfield, including Elm Grove. I think this map shows the line that ran on top of what is now Elm Grove Rd. in Elm Grove. It appears this line ran south to connect with the Air Line. Between Brookfield Jct. and Elm Grove, the line identified on the map as the LaCrosse Div of the M&St.P is the original M&M line. So this map still reflects a track realignment from the original, because the original M&M ran from Elm Grove to Wauwatosa. I am still looking for a map that shows the original L&M and M&M, which I believe ran parallel from Juneau Rd. to Brookfield Jct., and the point where these lines crossed over. I guess it’s safe to assume the crossover was just west of Brookfield Jct.
