Old Parts

I got an old Bachmann Union Pacific GP40 about a year ago…recently I decided to restore. Im restoring it because the are some broken parts and the motor is rusty. I need the windows, the horn, and both sides and back handrails. Im planning on using it as a switcher…But does anyone know where I can get them or if I can use a different set off a different locomotive.

I recall a restoration work done on several O gauge engines and the parts at the time were reproduction and minimal in cost.

For your engine, I say toss it to the parts box and get another engine. A bachmann standard (NOT spectrum) is about 30 bucks or so. My reasoning is that the sum of detail parts and painting etc will approach the cost of a replacement engine rather quickly.

IF you weally weally WEALLY are attached to your engine, then look at Details West for detail parts and follow diagrams for your engine from various sources such as may be availible.

Good luck!

As I recall Walthers has a fairly extensive detail parts listing, but I suspect you may have already looked there.

You might try calling or emailing Bachman. I needed a small engine part from Model Power once and they were very quick to respond.

Windows are easy and cheap! Use any clear plastic “blister pack” container, and a pair of scissors. Cut the plastic to fit. If desired, you can crease the plastic to fit in corners. Once you are happy with the fit, glue in place with a small amount of white glue, or clear silicone sealer.

For handrails, get a couple sticks of .012 inch brass rod from the hobby store, and bend your own up.

Or as mentioned, there are plenty of detail parts out there.
