I noticed this afternoon that there are six old passenger cars sitting on what I believe to be an unused siding off of a shortline in Monroe, Georgia. I think that they are on the property of a local industry, but I don’t know who owns them. They may even be used as office space for the industry, but I just don’t know. I’ll try to get pictures tomorrow after work, but until then this is that I noticed today:
RPCX 201 (Wabash dome car)
RPCX 202 (dome car)
RPCX 3231 MW (Norfolk and Western baggage car)
RPCX 1468 (Amtrak scheme no lettering, baggage car)
RPCX 1463 (Amtrak scheme no lettering, baggage car)
RPCX 4006 (Amtrak scheme no lettering, baggage car)
So I’d appreciate any info that anyone has on these cars.
I travel to Georgia from time to time and can see myself making a “train related” detour.
What kind of condition did these cars appear to be in? I wonder if these cars might belong to “Sam Short Line”. They own a mixture of classic streamlined passenger cars, some still in their previous owner’s paint scheme…
I took some quick pics and just uploaded them. My guess is that they are for storage, but I’m not sure who owns them. This particular shortline is quite infamous for the amount of junk that they collect. The already have an assortment of old MW equipment, cabooses, and other stuff spread across their lines.
I may ask the security guy at that factory if I can just walk into the parking lot and snap a few better pics.
If I’m not mistaken, an individual or group of people bought those and the plans are to restore them. The plant that they are sitting in front of is the old Universal Rundle plant that has shut down. They haven’t received a car in roughly 3 years but continued operations until sometime this year. Doug you better get down here and snap some pics of 6400(Chessie GP7), supposed to be next in line for a fresh coat of paint.
