Old Resubscriber and New Subscriber

Well, I finally was able to renew (if a six-month hiatus is allowed) my MR subscription. I opted for the combo- the digital and physical paper bargain, then added the all-issue archive option.

After a bit, I logged on and started looking thru the archived editions- let’s just say, I am very glad I made the purchase. It is absolutely wonderful to be able to instantly page thru the very first issue of MR I recall purchasing as a young boy! Then, I looked at a few of the earlier (in time) issues, such as the one which came out the month and year I was born- and that very first humble issue written by Al Kalmbach back in January 1934 (when my dad was still in high school!).

All I can say is that I now have a great deal of work ahead (in reading these archived issues) and the parameters for my car and structure building have been increased greatly. The pleasures that await me![:D]

If anyone is sitting on the fence about resubscribing, get down on the pro-active side- it will make the hobby experience that much more rewarding.

Note: this is an unpaid/unsolicited endorsement for our forum benefactor- MR and Kalmbach.

I did the same thing last week. I purchased the print mag, archive and MRVP.

My dad subscribed for a number of years; I have been on and off. I would have really prefered getting the archive without a mag subscription (I already subscribe to MRVP and I like it), but I had no choice. I will admit that I haven’t purchased an MR since last year, but I will probably keep this subscription current because I like the little extras, like the archive.

As you might know I have started a little digital archive “book club” [just a new Forum thread per week] where each Monday I post about a more-or-less randomly selected issue from the past, mention some of my reactions to it, and invite folks to comment about any aspect of the issue that strikes them. It has been a good way for me and others to explore the wealth of material that is available to us. This month we are looking at April 1961 and I encourage you to look it over and participate in the book club regularly. Your thoughts and reactions to the current or prior book club threads are welcomed.

I searched around the forums, but could not come up with an answer.

Has anyone asked before if there were plans to digitize the special issues? I am not asking about past issues, but rather upcoming GMR and MRP. With the digital MR issues it would only seem natural that they would soon offer digital special issues.

Sounds like another interesting avenue to pursue, Dave.

Thanks!
