Old RR whistle???

Hey guys,

This past saturday i was at steamtown with my wife and son, and while waiting for the Toby excurssion a little old lady (round 75) came up to us and wanted my son to have an old train whistle she had. She said it was her husbands grandfather’s whistle from when he worked on the railroad. Pretty cool right?

Now, im trying to find out if this actualy is an authentic RR whistle that was used in RR type work… because if i can get that confirmed it would be such a cool RR artifact with a good story behind it as well… so maybe some of you can help me out identifying this… the only marking it has on it is the “japan” … so im guessing that is where it was made…

anyway, here is a picture…

…I was shocked when I saw that photo…If it is about 6" in length and you blow into it and it emits a single sound tone {if my memory serves me correctly}…I’d then believe to the best of my memory, I had one exactly like it…!

I am trying to remember where it originated from and memory {mine}, tells me it either came with my Lionel or Marx train set and the era would be about 1938 or 1939 time frame…

I really believe it’s the exact same thing…

…Revised: After thinking about the tone or tones for about an hour now, I now believe it was two tones upon blowing into it…

^^^ cool, its 5.5" long, and it is two toned. there is another sound hole on the other side.
