Old small collection

I’m going through some model railroad items packed away some time ago, I mean a LONG time ago. All the track is brass, shows how long it was.

So how do you tell if track is good or not? Looks pretty dirty, what is good to clean brass track?

Is an old DC controller still good? Has nothing but the Forward/Reverse switch and a sliding lever for throttle.

Can’t believe there is not one boxcar in the bunch. A few reefers, tankers and stockcars and some odd cars. Looks like there’s a passenger car missing.

Mine were in boxes for 40 years before I pulled them out way back in oh-four. Same vintage?

The way to tell if brass track is good is simple: It’s not. Nobody uses brass track anymore, because it tarnishes easily. Nickel-silver is the only way to go.

The old power-pack may be OK. If it was working when you packed it up, it’s probably still working. However, the speed control may not work well anymore (they corrode) and even the forward-reverse switch may be intermittent. On the other hand, I’m using my old DC power pack (from the early 60’s) to power my turntable and some LEDs, and I’ve got an ancient Lionel transformer (probably from the 50s or maybe 40s) that provides the juice for my DCC system.
