Why do we suddenly have all these old threads? Is there a lack of current things. Boy it’s getting late. Good night.

You can thank The Ttruth when he comes back tomorrow…unless Bergie steps in and locks his account. Al dropped in.
Sorry, Crandell. That wasn’t quite “The Truth”. [:D]
Tom
Thanks. That’s what I suspected. Good night!

What wrong with old threads? I actually get tired of the “same” new threads every week. What’s the best DCC, what’s the best F3, what’s the best airbrush, which brand is best, which is better HO or N. Gads doesn’t anyone know how to use a search engine and pull up the old threads instead of making people repeat the same stuff over and over and over again.
I don’t have the slightest idea what you are talking about! It has been the better part of a month since anyone has asked “Which is better - Atlas or Kato?” or “Can I run my Big Boy on my 18” radius curves?"
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, GANG!!!
Guys
perhaps I’m in the minority, but what is the problem with the occasional “resurfacing” of older threads???
IMHO, some of them are exceptionally valuable. I certainly got some great info off of the “old” Shelf Layout and Lift-Out Section threads.
I appreciate it when an old thread pops up and some of our newer forum members add some very good info, photos, tips, etc., to them that can very useful. Not all old threads are 10 pages long. Most are 1 or 2.
Isn’t this forum about sharing ideas, concepts, and generally helping each other so that we all may enjoy our hobby even more?
Am I missing something? [%-)]
Nothing wrong with them resurfacing. It’s the messages and intent used by the poster that’s the main problem.
All the newcomers to the forum will ask all those same questions that you had. Really, all us seasoned members have seen these asked over and over again.
Kinda complaining about MR articles that seem lame to an experienced modeler. They look real good to someone new to the hobby.
Just have some patience, newbies need to learn just as we did.
Okay, I’ll admit to my ignorance - I have problems getting the search engine here to effectively work. Seems when I’m looking for a topic, the search engine here is overly picky about my having to get the title exactly as it’s worded, or else they’ve been archived/dropped into a black hole, 'cause I repeatedly get ‘zero’ results on my searches, even if I know the user’s name. And I was a computer major for couple or three years in college, so it’s not from lack of computer knowledge. No wonder the newbies can’t find a topic that isn’t in the first couple of pages…(okay, end of rant…)
If the search engine had some more flexibility (as web search engines do), users (even those who’ve - like me - been here three years or more) could find the old threads and newbies wouldn’t have to re-invent the topic again. Or, how about a working sort for the topic list that would really list them in alphabetical title order - that would be useful, moreso to me than the chronological (default) order, which is useful mainly if the topic has been popular or is recent.

I don’t have any problem with old threads resurfacing. What I dislike is the intentions of the person who does it when his ego is foremost in the decision-making. Anyone who posts crud like that in a forum isn’t thinking about the sensibilities of the other users, clearly.
As should be clear by my comments above, a banned former member re-registered, yet again, and stirred up trouble on Friday evening. In order to flood the forum with his invective and filth, he reached for threads in the archives and then added a lame, immature, and vengeful stream of vitriol that I was forced to chase and expunge as soon as I encountered them. It took over two hours, with NZRMac and tstage getting in there as well to stay ahead of him (my thanks to both of them…they were awesome!) I am sure they had better things to do, too.
That much about the old threads I could do without.
You mean like old “toast” threads?[zzz]
I’m on a computer forum that has warning messages when you try to post to old threads.
The first warning says-
1-This thread is XXX days old and has probably been answered already.
If you still try and post, you get a second warning-
2-We already told you this thread serves no purpose anymore, but if you still want to annoy the rest of the members by bringing it up to top, go ahead and click reply…AGAIN!
[:D]
Loathar,
Not old toast threads… I was referring to threads with solid, helpful information. Another thread that resurfaced again that I found useful was the one about Telephone Pole wires. Not long, yet good photos and a link to the company that produces realistic, easy to install wire that won’t sag like the traditional sewing machine wire that me and many guys over 40 used “back in the day”.
Selector,
I totally agree with you and understand. It’s sad that a fellow model railroader feels compelled to waste his valuable time and talent in trying to bring down his fellow modelers. Yet, he doesn’t realize that all he’s doing is making the members of this forum become more protactive in keeping this place a “High Quality” forum.

Ah,The moderators job is not a easy nor tame job and I will add thankless in most cases…Still moderators on all forums trudge on keeping the peace and harmony.
I been a moderator on one forum since 2002 and moderate on 2 others.
Well done guys.
I agree. Some of those older threads are interesting and informative. Maybe some of the newer members (and some seasoned modelers) of this forum are interested in them. Since this forum is about sharing information and everyone has different interests, I don’t see what’s wrong with resurecting these threads. There are many threads, both newer and older, that don’t spark my interests (eg. modern RRing, best diesel, best airbrush, operation, etc.), however, since other members may be interested in these topics, they have as much right to be posted as the topics I find relavent to my interests. Heck, I have resurected and answered many older posts because I found the topics interesting. When I see a post I’m not interested in, I simply pass on it and find a topic I like.
Sorry Loathar
I found the “TOAST” thread to be the funniest **** thing I’ve read in a long time, the wit of some of these folks must be appreciated.
[:D]
Go to the Atlas forum and dig up the Model Railroad Dabbler thread. WAY funnier than the toast thread![:)]
will do
The Coffee Shop seems to be dead, but Elliot’s Trackside Diner and the Beer Barn are still going strong.
