Older Kato DCC and Sound Installation Question

Hi this is Rookie Railroader again. I have an Alco RS-3 or RS-2 that is DC. I think it’s probably over 8 yrs old, but I can’t be sure because I got this locomotive second hand. I was thinking about putting in a TSU-KT1000 for RS-2 (ALCO 244) decoder but saw that it looks like a drop in replacement type decoder. Could I still install this in my locomotive? Is there other alternatives that would be better? Your answers would be greatly appreciated.

I missed this post from several weeks ago.

I added LokSound Select decoders to two Kato RS2s. I used the 6Aux version and removed the old board. The 6Aux takes a bit less room than the board version. A micro would save more space. Great motor control and 244 sounds.

I shortened light pipes and added leds. Shortened a weight a bit. This allowed using two 13x18mm sugarcube speakers as the length fits across the long hood. The curve of the hood provided an enclosure, but minimal, with teeny styrene ends added.

This video compared the dual sugarcubes in an RSC2 with dual 1.1" HiBass in a Proto 2000 PA unit. Both are LokSound Select decoders.
