Olympia Logging Series: Selecting lumber and hardware

David, how about letting us know what the total was at the checkout. Also screw packs are based on the bakers dozen principle. An even number plus 1 spare.

Fun video, guys. Love the background music!

OK, has Home Depot given Kalmbach Publishing free lumber for this spot?

About time you Easterners moved to a Western Railroad. When does this thing break in the magazine?

Seven screws in a bag when you need 8 is how they get you to buy 6 more than you need…

How much did al the lumber and hardware cost?

A fun video to start off a new project layout! Thanks. Will the webcam be set up for this one?

When sighting/eyeing up lumber here in Jersey, significantly warped pieces are referred to as “hockey sticks”.

On30? Olympia Logging series? I will have to watch for more.

Want to reduce the time spent picking through crooked lumber? Shop at a real local builder’s lumber yard and not a big box. Big boxes buy and sell lower grades of all cuts of lumber versus local builder’s lumber yards. Also, most builders lumber yard store all lumber stacked flat while big boxes store 1" by materials in a off vertical storage rack leading to more warping.

Are you setting up the web cam for this layout build?

Nice video with a fun spirit. I noticed that David got Kent to push the cart and pay for everything  David, have you ever looked at steel studs for table legs or other parts of the table structure? No warping, but different tools are required.

It’s nice to know that your wood is as warped as ours in the UK! Thanks for rage show

Screws usually have a pointed end for driving into materials. What you use, which screw into a nut, is usually called a bolt. If you are shopping at a hardware store with actual assistants they will understand what you are looking for if you use the usual terms. (Picky Picky)

Love your Red car David. But couldn’t quite tell what it is. Can you (or any one else) tell us what it is?

Two problems! First, I’d have driven the hot red sports car and let you two take the van, but then I probably would have taken the really long route to Home Depot. Second, didn’t I see you enter the store through the clearly marked EXIT? Another great video, looking forward to more in this series. Thanks.

I surprised at the fact you found someone at Home Depot to cut you plywood.

That’s why I buy my nuts, bolts, screws, etc. from the bulk supply at True Value. Seven in a bag? Pshaw!

Good ideas for any size layout, also I agree, MFG make you buy two bags in order to get that 8th bolt. BOO, the you have 6 you don’t need, at least for a while. What was your total cost??? Looking forward to the new years episodes. Thanks.
