Today was the first ever (that I know of anyway) Omaha Railraod Days. At Lauritzen Gardens (the local botanical gardens) a new permanent model RR opened up, I’ll have more about that in the Model Railroader forum. Then at the Durham Western Heritage Museum they had three of the heritage units (Katy, SP, CNW) and then the UP E-units. I took over 50 pictures today! In addition to the ones posted, more can be found at http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=17136577&uid=3783191&members=1
Very nice! I was at the Amtrak station today and got a few pictures from the platform, but I plan on getting closer tomorrow. I didn’t have the 7 dollars needed to get into the museum today since I just didn’t expect it to cost that much. Tomorrow I’ll be prepared.
You need not pay the entrance fee merely to view the locomotives. You can go to the lower level of the parking garage and simply walk around the building.
That said, this depot is something that everyone should see. It is an art deco building that the museum has done a great job of restoring, both inside and out. They have some interesting exhibits; but even if it were empty, the building itself is worthwhile.
