ON 30 scale

I am considering setting up a layout set in the 1800’s. On 30 scale seems like a logical size for a 4X8’ board. I have very little experience and would appreciate any input on trains in this scale. I have been looking a Bachmanns and I wonder if their inexpensive locomotives will hold up with a limited amout of rolling stock. Thanks. Gary

You ought to post this on the Model Railroader forums. I am not sure I like the idea, a 4x8 is almost too small for HO scale. If you do build it you should plan to make it easy to expand to, since you will want to.
I don’t trust Bachman any farther than I can kick 'em, but I was buying the krud line, not the spectrum line.

gary,

0n30 is a great way to go. these bachmann products run well and are the most affordable in 0 scale (1/4" scale). after you get your starter set, check the 0 gauge magazines and you will find no shortage of product to add.

4x8 is acceptable; 5x9 would be better (a ping pong table). try to think “less is more”, otherwise no amount of table will be large enough.
