On-Line Source for Current Maps for Conrail, NS and CSX

Anyone know of where I could download current but detailed and separate maps for Conrail, CSX and NS? UPSP, BNSF, CP and CN would also be of interest.

I’ve not kept up with merger-and-acquisition mania. Has Kansas City Southern (Texas Mexican, Gulf & Mississippi, MidSouth Rail, Gateway Western, and Louisiana & Arkansas) been absorbed into another road, or does it still stand alone? If still separate, an on-line source for a current map of its operational territory would also be of interest.

Could you be more specific? I’m not aware of any location on the trains.com site that leads to maps, current or historical.

I have never seen a good online NS or CSX map. Here is a Conrail map-

http://broadway.pennsyrr.com/Rail/Conrail/

BNSF has an excellent PDF map on their website.

Go to the top of this page and click on the trains magazine icon (between the blue “model railroader” icon and the red “classic toy trains” icon)

Then scroll down to the red menu bar and select “Railroad reference”

Select “Freight Railroads” from that menu

Scroll down that page until you see a section devoted to each class one RR.

After selecting each, you will open a brief description for the respective railroad, followed by a header stating “Headquarters” with a link to each company’s website. (example nscorp.com)

Once at each company’s website, you will find a link to
“system maps” hidden away in the menu(s). For instance NS keeps theirs hidden in the “about us” section.

From there on it is “hedgehog heaven” for map lovers

Go to the KCS website at www.kcsi.com click on For Customers and then the sub-screen System Map. The KCS is separate from any other railroad and all the former roads you mention have been absorbed into the KCS system. In addition the largest private Mexican railroad, the TFM, is owned by KCS and is now the KCSM (KCSdeMexico). The KCS is also half owner and the operator of the Panama Canal Railroad.

The Conrail break-up map scans posted on that link are great. CR issued this well before the takeover; I have a wall-sized one at home and it’s a valuable resource, showing most Conrail stations and locations, as well as the assigned NS, CSX, and Conrail (SAA) trackage.

I appreciate the step-by-step location advice.
