On Reaching 1,000 Posts

Actually this will be post 1,001 and the number to the left will change as I continue my association with the forums. For one that doesn’t have much more than a loop with a scenic divider on a 4x6 surface, that seems like a lot. I must say that my return to model railroading has helped much more than my modeling. I was never a good reader, but the interest sparked by this hobby has improved both my reading speed and comprehension. My computer skills have gained, but have a long way to go. (Still need to find some cable for my wife’s camera to even try to post photos.) It is enjoyable reading and sharing with such a great group of folks, from the most skilled to the folks that don’t know much more than their name. Do I spend too much time on the forums? Possibly, but the gained knowledge from the topics discussed and the thought process when I discribe things to others, speed progress when I am actually on scene working on the layout. So far I feel it has been a good investment of my time.

First, I’d like to thank MR for sponsoring these forums. Without them I would not be nearly as far along in my attempts at modeling and totally in the dark in some areas.

Second, I thank those folks who have taken the time to answer my questions. With the wide variety of opinions on some subjects, it has given me the opportunity to find out which method is “best” for me. I certainly have not used all the ideas, but hopefully others reading the posts have gained new insite and found new methods to use for themselves. I’ll certainly have more questions before my “dream layout” is anywhere near complete (even started).

Next a thanks to the folks that have asked their own questions and those that have answered them. Some I wouldn’t even known to ask, all have helped steer me along the path to enjoyment of improved skills.

I hope my answers to questions have helped others in the hobby. Some of my ans

What a nice post, Cowman!! It pleases me to learn that you feel the way you do about your return to the hobby and in your experience on the forums. I hope you won’t need an excuse to hang around for many years to come.

I am Happy to hear that the Hobby has helped You improve, in so many, and some unexpected ways .[tup][tup]

If your wife’s camera uses an SD card, check your computer to see if it has an SD card slot. You may be able to download the SD card directly into the computer, without needing to use the camera at all.

Keep having FUN!!

Doug

Congratulations! [Y] heres a [^] to celebrate with.

Feels sorta good doesn’t it?

feels like you actually belong, have something to say others may be interested in, and to know that someone took time to read your posted questions and actually answer them.[wow][yeah]

Some say post counts are bogus, but I pay them no mind as the above is true.[tup]

I’m over 1500 for awhile now, and looking forward to my 2000th.[;)]

oh, by the way, I only have a 3.5 foot x 5.1 foot HO layout with TWO loops! So don’t feel you don’t “measure up”! [8-|]

Way to go Cowman. I think I am a head of you in posting only because I had problems! [:D] Looking forward to seeing you hit 2000 mark.

Ken

cowman,

In my 6 years on the Trains Forums, I have only posted 5 or 10 substantive messages.

The reason that I am over 1,500 is that the rest of the posts were trying to learn how to post photos, how to add an avatar, and arguing with Selector over locked threads.

Here’s wishing you a 1,000 more !!!

John

Congratulations! One of these days I will get there!

Slacker. [(-D]

Did you swear off coffee way back then, John? [:D]

It appears that a post on any trains.com forum counts. I have both HO and O 3 rail with current focus on O. Most of my posts are on Classic Toy Trains. When I 1st got a computer typing was agonizingly slow. Much faster now.

Dennis

Thanks for a very nice post, and congrats on your milestone.

Best Wishes from the Big Sky Country,

Wayne

Congratulations! Your next milestone is actully Top 200 Contributor (I think around 1800 posts – but don’t count on it, because it’s always changing).

Post counts aren’t bogus, but they do track garbage as well as substance… so this little nothing here adds one to mine! [:D]

BTW, looks like “Edits” count too.

Contrats on your number 1000. Hope to see several times more from ya in the future. [tup]

Hamltnblue,

You are approaching 2,500, let’s party !

Rich

LOL. Like having a 5 year old party up to those like Selector or Jeffrey. At this rate it would be about 12 more years to get to their count and then they’d be a quarter million.

The forums do get addicting though. I’m thinking it will pick up in activity soon as people dig out their seasonal layouts and equipment and start asking more questions.

I have been thinking that the number of threads has been low. Your comment explains it.

And I get one more added to my total.

I do wish it were easier to quote or am I missing something?

Congratulations on the 1,000th post! I enjoyed reading your post and agree with everything you say. I don’t want to high jack this, but as I type this, it will be 1,000th post as well.

Hello cowman

Congratulations on reaching the 1,000 mark but more importantly in expressing your appreciation for the Forum and MR magazine so well and eloquently.

These are my thoughts exactly but you put them into words.

Thanks and,…

Happy Railroading

Bob

1K is a big milestone, but as a long time member here I have found that the longer your on, the less the post count matters, its just a number.

I hit 1K it was like “Whoo Hoo!, I made it!” [bow]

5K, it ws “Oh thats interesting”, [:P]

now as I approach 10K its like “Meh” [:-^]

Of course It’s taken since 2001 to each 10K so maybe thats why I’m not a overly excited Old Bunny.
