On30 standards

What are the standards for layout construction with this scale? In particular what radius curves are the typical minimum for the motive power being offered…which radius is more appearance oriented for those that have the space to utilize such curves. How about track centers for adjacent tracks as in yards etc. What size are those ties being used on Peco’s version of the On30 track? Rail size code for 70 to 80 lb rail in 1/4" scale?

Anyone have any good reading suggestions on this particular scale?

Thanks!!

Bob

A while back some guys tried to set some standards for On30 in a yahoo group, and found that most of us On30 modlers don’t want NO stinking standards. An On30 forum that I visit a lot is http://www.on30xchange.net/ . Might ask some of the general questions there if nobody else pipes up here. I myself use the biggest curves I can get and as to things like track clearances, I only run single track. Tunnel openings and bridges are set to clear an out of box Bachmann box car as it’s easily the biggest thing I will ever run. I use Atlas code 100 and cut every other tie off and also do some hand laying using some old N scale flextrack rail on 3/32 basswood ties. Fred
