on30

Anyone know where all the up to date info on on30 is available? I have googled on30 and been to alot of websites. I have gained lots of good info. I am just looking for whats new, whats coming out, who has found a good bargin and where. Thanks.

From my personal experience I would say to avoid the Bachmann 0-4-2 Porter - mine’s probably a rogue example but it’s been a disaster. The motor is fine as is the quartering, but there’s something amiss with the gearing - once every wheel revolution the loco jolts vertically. I’ve taken a good look at the offending parts but can’t figure it out - anyone else had the same problem and/or have a solution? I’d only buy another after seeing it test run - as this was an impulse buy via the web I didn’t have that option!

Check the Bachmann website, they seem to be the only one producing rolling stock:

There are several YahooGroups on On30, do a search on their site.

Trainworld seems to have the best prices on much of the Bachmann line: http://www.trainworld.com/

I don’t know of one site that has it all. http://o.webring.com/hub?ring=on30webring has 40 sites, some good, some average and links to other sites, so it’s a good place to start. On30 tends to be a cottage industry supplied scale with lots of little guys sharing their work with others in the form of resin kits and such. A couple sites I like that has several On30 guys are http://www.2guyz.info/Forums.html and http://www.on30xchange.net/ .

As to the Bachman porter, well, it’s like an inexpensive lokey is all I can say for it. You probally need to rebuild it and quarter the wheels, or take advantage of the lifetime warranty. Fred
