are there any On30 modelers here? is there another forum or magazine? i need to find the best place to find On30 locomotives cheap
eBay is probably your best place to look. Some dealers have continual “buy it now” and/or regular auctions with On30 gear. Do a search and then check completed auctions, this will give you an idea of what they have been selling for. There seem to have been some great deals whenever I check, especially for the locos that have been available for a while. Not so with the newer releases.
There is a Yahoo Group (and probably more) caller On30Conspiracy, with over 2000 members. It’s mainly populated with hard core On30 modelers, so you can ask all sorts of questions on it.
Good luck!
Micro-Mark http://www.micromark.com/ has some good prices on Bachmann On30.
Of course part of the idea with On30 is that you can take HO mechanisms and build your own.
Enjoy

There are a few of us here. I started On30 about five years ago and still enjoy it. After fifty years in HO it was a great change. There is nothing cheap in any scale that is really good.As noted in an earlier post On30 conspiracy is good group but they tend towards critters and scratch built. HO engines can be coverted to On30 with some work and parts which are available from various suppliers.
It all depends on what you want. Have fun.
Dave
thanks everyone
I’ve been modeling in On30 ever since Bachmann came out with their line of quality, affordable locos and rolling stock. I really like working in O scale narrow gauge. There’s a forum called “The Gauge” that has a sub-forum dealing with On30. Enjoy yourself modeling in On30!
I have yet to model anything, but I am seriously considering On30 WHEN I get started. You can model tight radii, short trains and cramped places very well with it. It also tends toward the ecclectic, which is a big plus in my book. Finally, it’s larger scale size allows you to place more detail (easier for me, anyway) without having a gigantic layout. Good stuff!
