One good thing about CN’s takeover of EJ&E

One good thing about CN’s EJ&E acquisition is that we don’t have to go to the Chicago area to spot EJ&E orange SD38-2s.

Are those the right colors? They sure look wrong to me! Especially the J unit.

People here in New Lenox are beginning to wake up to the hyper ventilation of our local pols. I have overherad three discussions recently with people asking each other when the trains were going to start running. I could’;t help but butt in and say they are. When I get this dazed look I say, " It’s only one train an hour and hardly a reason for the mass hysteria".

CHANGE THEY CAN BELIEVE IN, AND A CRISIS WASTED![:O][soapbox][oops]

They’ve even made it up this way (Oshkosh, WI) as I’ve seen two (can’t recall #s now). Sunday afternoon I saw (on CN) a black IC SD70 (1027) leading followed by blue/red GTW GP, followed by EJE in orange. Even my wife commented that the combination of colors was nice to look at.

Just wondering if CN’s acquisition of the EJ&E was good for maintaining employment levels at EJ&E?

I just read here (http://www.utu.org/worksite/detail_news.cfm?ArticleID=48971) that some furloughed EJ&E employees are back to work.

I’m sore to suspect that finance & accounting, rates & divisions, payroll, labor relations, crew calling, customer service operations, and engineering will move either to the Illinois Central “headquarters” office south of Chicago (because it’s in the United States) or to Montreal. Some consolidation is bound to go on within these departments. 'Tain’t a good time to be a J clerk, that’s for sure.

Because the F.R.A. insists that United States properties be dispatched by people employed within the United States, my guess is that the J’s train dispatchers will move to the Illinois Central facility.

If EJ&E’s employees got New York Dock protection, they had better be ready to relocate just about anywhere on the system.
