May have been posted already but for those of you who felt, like I did, that railfans had won a minor victory against Metra, well I guess it was too early to celebrate. This was on the Chicago Sun Times website today: http://www.suntimes.com/output/terror/madrid02.html
The long and the short of it is that a suspect in the Madrid, Spain train bombing had sketches of Grand Central terminal in N.Y. and Bloomberg said that security would be tightened. How long until more cities tighten security too?
Would that be the same Grand Central Terminal that TRAINS (IIRC) published detailed plans of some years ago? I’m pretty sure I have that copy in my stacks. Hope they don’t search my house. I’ve got railroad schedules (from 1957), rail atlases, tons of RR oriented material, and even a rail mockup (my layout) that I can go through scenarios on…
Hmmm . . . railroad schedules, rail atlases, tons of RR oreinted material and a rail mockup . . . that sounds awfully suspicious. I think I had better confiscate that material for safe keeping.
I also heard this on the news. But, what was sketched? How many photographs were taken inside and outside of Grand Central Terminal, and how many books were published Grand Central Terminal? In fact there was a TV program on one of the PBS channels on Grand Central Terminal
In 2004 Metro North ran two fan trips out of Grand Central Terminal over their lines so I don’t think we as railfans have too much cause for concern…
think your all jumping the gun just a bit… the point of the story… they are showing that the same person that did the bombings in spain was possably going to do something at GST…and that is only speculation at this time… you all need to just chill out a bit…and relaxe… and see how the story infolds befor you all get up in arms over someone asking you for ID and a reason for taking the pics…
