Seems the one thing missing in HO Scale are one story buildings.
With the exception of City Classics Supermarket; Bachmann’s Plasticville Buildings and SS Ltd.;there aren’t any!!!
And even at that,Bachmann’s Plasticville Buildings are too toy like for scale!!!
Most one story buildings are mostly wooden frontier era like Blair Line’s General Store and the like.
Since my pike is going to be set in Central Texas in the 1958-60 era,it would be nice if there were a few more late steam/early era one story buildings in HO.
There are many available, but not from Walthers. Check BEST models, Bachmann, Con-Cor, and other manufacturers. You’ve just got to know where to look besides the Walthers catalog.
I agree that Plasticville products are terrible looking, but they are not the only things offered.
Similar suggestion here. I was faced with a lack of three story buildings for my simulation of Brooklyn, NY, so I bought two, two story buildings, deleted the lower story from one, and added it to the top of the other. A first floor and a cornice were left over. Elementary kitbashing.
A Texas small town of the 1950’s would have brick buildings on Main Street, and these could be built using the scads of Walthers Cornerstone city buildings that are normally in two-story form. Cut the building all around, at the top of the store-fronts, and cut all around again, under the cornice, then rejoin the cornice to the first story.
