Oops forgotten? Birthday of Rudolf Diesel

I believe the birthday of Rudolf Diesel (inventor of the combustion engine of the same name) was 18th march 1858. 150 years ago and I didn’t see it mentioned on this forum!

greetings,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUDY!

Poor guy…They’re cursing him on the “Could Steam make a comeback?” Thread…(Just Kiddin’)

I don’t think he’s turning over in his grave just yet, Gabe. Maybe laughing his head off, though …

That’s assuming that somebody knows where his ‘grave’ is - I recall that he disappeared off of a ship shortly before WW1. Lotsa conjecture whether he jumped under his own volition or was pushed off by British agents.

What’s kind of funny is that most diesel engines actually operate more like an Otto cycle engine than a Diesel cycle - the one commonality is compression ignition of an injected fuel charge.
