The UP did this in the Alturas yard 4 or 5 years ago. They never did clean up this mess. Will the new Modoc Northern have to clean up UPs mess?
The graffiti on the CNW car in that last picture looks like it was done after the wreck happened.

UP has lots of Oops moments, I havent made it out there yet but apparently there are a couple coal hoppers out near the powerplant here that derailed that are supposedly still sitting where they came off the track.
Out here at the sugar factory, at the end of a siding there are two hoppers, the last truck of one is of the end of the track. Been there forever.
That’s what im saying. I mean the UP is so Stupid it’s a wounder they can ever run their own Railroad right.
I can’t believe the EPA hasn’t stepped in on that mess.If it is considered a chemical spill of any type I thought it had to be cleaned up.Am I wrong?Or is this considered a chemical spill?
if the cars are empty and off the mainline they can sit for a looong time.ns had an N&W boxcar sit off the track near latty ohio for a long time and the I&O sent a csx boxcar down their hill.the N&W car is gone but as far as ive heard lately the csx boxcar is still there.

I think they are empty, If not they are loaded with Peralite. Peralite is not a hazardous material.
I’m amazed that they leave cars that are surely worth a fair few $ lying on the trackside like that - guessing it would cost more than the value of the car to get a crane out there and rerail them?
A number of years ago in Southeast Missouri, the Frisco had a wreck and one of its demolished boxcars lay along side the the tracks so long it became a local landmark and the little town of Risco, Missouri got its name from the sign on the remains of that old wrecked Frisco car… Slow wreck clean up isn not a new thing[:-^]
