Opening Amtrak passenger cars

Hi everyone! I’m new, so I’m sorry if this topic is not in the right area.

I have some figures that have come unglued from their seats in a K-line Amtrak passenger car. It’s made from Aluminum and I can’t figure out how to take it apart to get at the figures. Any suggestions. I’m about ready to go to the dealer :frowning:

No one? Okay…off to the dealer.

Hi Amtrak Jack,

The K-Line website has a technical support section where you can currently ask your question to a K-Line tech person. I am not sure how fast they respond. But it may be worth a shot.

Hi! I emailed them on Monday, before I came here, so I guess they’re pretty slow. But in all fairness, they may not even be there. They’re in North Carolina and a hurricane is coming there in 10 hours.

WELL! Strike 10 hours! It’s there now and there’s no more K-line! Maybe once the storm passes K-Line will re-open.

Don’t get discouraged Jack, last time I e-mailed them a question it took a couple of days for them to get back to me.

I’m also interested in your answer, I’ve a couple of folks sleeping on the floor of the domes on my CZ’s that I haven’t gotten around to looking at.

What kind of screws does Kline use in the floors of their cars? What happens if you take the trucks off? There may be other small screws in the floor. If there are no screws, are there any mounting tabs on the sides of the car? Spreading the car a little may get something loose then you can lift the carbody away from the floor.

Oh, sure I could just tear into the thing, but I like to be careful and only remove what is needed. Thanks though. BTW, spreading the car apart a bit did nothing.

I have quite a few K-line passenger cars and I have encountered this problem several times. I don’t own Amtrak, but they are probably similar. Do not attempt unless you have time and patience. The usual routine is to remove the plastic ends from the cars ( they are screwed in place) and disconnect the wires that are attached to the streamlighting. You will then have to unscrew the breadboards with the passengers from the bottom of the car. Some of the screws may be hidden and there are quite a few. The breadboards slide out of a channel. To glue the passengers I recommend the Goop type clue. Repeat the process in reverse to reassemble. Make shure you slide the breadboard back into the channel. Good luck!

Thank you! What you describe is correct. I didn’t notice the wires for the lighting until I read your post. The wires were keeping the whole thing from being slid off–That and the little screws that hold the seats on. Thanks again!

I think I’ll bounce my cars around till it looks like the loose passengers in the domes look like they’re sleeping on a seat. Nobody but me takes the time to check the details anyway.

Rog, I would but I have a three year old that keeps a very close eye on things.

Well, I figured it out. BTW, K-line NEVER returned the email. You have to unhook the light connectors and then remove the trucks. Then the whole thing just SLIDES right out.

I don’t have an actual layout, but I do collect. Mostly Frisco stuff (getting hard to find now). Yall have kept me in stitches laughing over the “people” sleeping on the floor and bouncing them around. I wonder what someone overseas would think reading this thread. Now wouldn’t that be a hoot. lol [:p]
