Operating Milk Car

Any insight to the different numbered postwar operating milk cars as I’m looking to purchase one. I see they were brought out in different years and such. Is one better than the other mechanically or any other thoughts would be helpful. Thanks a bunch.

There were three 027 milk cars: 3462, 3472, and 3482. There was one O gauge milk car, # 3662, and an “O” gauge bosco car:, #3672.

The 3662 (and 3672) mechanism is a little more sophisticated than that which is found on the 027 milk cars. It has a dashpot to smooth out the operation.

The 3672 bosco car is considered difficult to find, and therefore commands a premium.
It’s milk platform is painted differently than all the other milk cars.

The other milk cars all use the same platform.

All of the cars work fairly well.

Great info, I appreciate it very much!

If you are looking for the best milk car for operation and not a collectable then I recommend the K-Line by Lionel milk car. I has a motor with very smooth operation and can be controlled by an operating track or a handheld remote so it can be activated anywhere on your layout. It can be mated with an operating loading platform as well.
