People are stupid and try to beat the train when if they wait there lives be saved.
Once again, if the railroad industry was really serious about trespassing there would not be a railroad industry covered in graffiti.
I wonder how many of these are caused by people being inattentive by texting or listening to music with headphones on or talking on the phone?
Make it required learning in Grade school. Start the kids early in life to learn railroad safety.
I wonder if the number of grade crossing incidents began to rise as drivers began to interact with cell telephones and texting instead of with just passengers or car radios. A passenger was, perhaps, able to call the drivers’ attention to the dangers of a grade crossing.
Why is this SEE TRACKS? Message so Mild? It is Stupid!
Get on TRACKS, A TRAIN WILL KILL YOU! STAY OFF THE TRACK, IT WILL NOT KILL YOU.
TRAINS KILLED 526 TRESPASSERS LAST YEAR!
I fail to see that this Operation Lifesaver message has any benefit. It needs a stronger punch!
You know if railroads really wanted to end crossing accidents, they would protect all crossings, if the city, town, state wanted to end crossing accidents they would protect all crossings, it comes down to $, so neither one really gives a FUSS about these accidents.
Regarding grade level crossing accident’s, adding a second barrier arm opposite the existing on both sides of the track would prevent drivers from driving around the single barrier as many have tried and into the path of a train.
If you look at the number of incidents involving people or cars going around gates and ignoring existing lights and warnings I fear it would be a waste of money to ask railroads to provide more gates or more complex and expesive ones. We are attempting to protect idiots from themselves. It is a losing battle.
