Jeff,When my HO layout was up and running it was operated everyday…after all I wanted to enjoy my DCC with sound, over price locomotives and the fruits of my labor.I plan to do the same when my N scale layout is up and running.

Being retired dos’nessary equal more layout time.
I seemed to have more time for the layout when I was working. I operate the layout or work on an model about 3 times a week.
Hmm how did I find time to work???

The answer can depend on what is meant by “operated.” If you meant “run a train” then I imagine many are run almost every day. But formal operating sessions with a crew and switch lists or car forwarding – harder to organize. I know a guy who has about 5 formal operating sessions a month. Most guys with formal sessions it is maybe once a month at most. The run trains more often than that but formal operating takes some preparation. Plus of course a full crew wants sodas and pretzels!
