Hey everybody! Been a while since I’ve posted, and for anybody interested, I’m moving to Seattle (I’m officially a Husky!!!), and will be modeling the Simpson Timber Co. out of Shelton, Washington in the 30s or 40s. As it turns out, logging railroads in western Washington ordered Baldwin 2-8-2s by the bakers dozen. Thus I am looking at purchasing the BLI 2-8-2 with DCC and sound. Any opinions on the lokey? Good, bad, smooth runner, good sound? Things like that. Thanks for replying!

I’ve never tried to copy a link,so if this doesn’t work, you can find this on page 3 of “General Discussion”

As I said in this thread,I’m generally very happy with mine.

Baldwin logging locomotives were not the same size as the BLI 2-8-2’s. They are substanially smaller engines. Smaller boilers, smaller drivers, smaller engines - lighter and smaller.
The logging operations used lighter track that the regular railroad in most instances.

This is a typical logging engine with 42’ drivers, the BLI models have 63" drivers.
Echoing Don’s post about size of the USRA’s vs. the Baldwin Mikes. If your going to use them for logging the Bachmann Connies are a good fit.
I would suggest as a logging engine the Athearn/Roundhouse 2-8-0 or 2-6-0. Both of these have been offered at discounted prices lately. Check around.
