Opinions Wanted

Hello All,

Because of some financial problems, I have decided to sell some of my trains to fix these problems.

The only problem is, the sets I want to sell are a Polar Express set and a “Riding the Rails” Hobo Set (With an Eire Hudson, Double Door Boxcar with hobo inside, hobo and cop chase gondola, Erie Caboose, hobo campfire, as well as the transformer and a loop of track.)

I plan to sell both for $200 or mayeb less if I see fit. I want to list them both in my local newspaper ads. Do you think anyone will buy them?

You might do better on Ebay or a buy sell board.

I agree. More people go on ebay and it should cost less to list. good luck!

Might try this one too. Free if registered.

OGR would probably be a better idea.

Cheese, check your e-mail. Ken

If you have a local craigslist, I would try selling your trains there. It’s free to list and you can show photos of what you have for sale. I’ve recently bought a couple trains from my local craigslist and have been very pleased with the transactions. It seems craigslist is replacing the newspaper classifiied ads in the areas it services. Here’s the link to the craigslist site:

Since OGR is mentioned above I would like to add that the Model Train Journal web site also has a buy/sell section.

Here’s a better way: You can actually sell them on the CTT forum, even though there is a policy against advertising here! Here’s how:

Just post a question asking for advice on how to sell them. Be sure to list all the items so that everyone can see exactly what you’re selling; and put the prices in there too. The moderators will never be the wiser. It also helps if you slip in a little bit of a hard-luck story.

You can’t expect to get those prices on the secondary market. They are too high. You can buy a new Polar Express set for $225 to $240 from a discount mail order house.

Yes,

I realized that, which is why the price of the polar has been changed to its original $200. That might drop as well because I am having trouble finding the figures.

Please note:

I am not trying to advertise on the CTT forum. I was actually asking the more experienced crowd if the thought they might sell in the newspaper. I enjoy being a member of this board and I do not wish to go against is policies, so I will most likely delete this topic soon. I see that there are some people here who can’t seem to believe and honest person when they see one. I find it insulting for you to accuse me of such "shenanigans and tomfoolery (I love those two words).

Is there anyone else who wants to accuse my of being a sneaky, manipulating, little crook as our good mr.soni has done?

Cheese,

No offense meant, but your post came across that way to me, too. And, while I don’t always agree with Bob, I find that he has a pretty sharp grasp of most issues. I don’t believe he was being maliscious, just taking a clever poke at what appeared to be an obvious ploy. I don’t pretend to speak for him–he can do that on his own quite well–but I fouond the original post mildy amusing for just that reason.

Since you asked, I too read it the same way. (What happened to the “ditto” icon?)

If this was a violation then I’m sure the CTT moderators would have deleted the post.

Pallalin, amen.

Hmmm,

I see. Well I tried to delete the post to avoid further conflict, but the deletion attempt was denied. So I can’t do anything about it now, except to say I suggest we drop this post.

What conflict? You asked for some advice and it was given to you. No accusations were made.
