Well I broke down and ordered a #6 Fast Tracks turnout jig yesterday using Spacemouse’s site. I got an e-mail this morning telling me it had been shipped and a little later a phone call from my bank just to conferm that I was indeed the person that made the order. I thought that was very nice of the bank to call and confirm it. They said that they do that on all transactions outside the USA. Another way to protect me from identify theft I guess.
I am really excited about it I had to tell you all. Thanks Spacemouse. Mike
Keep us posted on how you like it.
Take it from. Don’t get excited. Study the step by step process on the CD. Severl times. Print out the instructions. I 3 hole punched mine and put it in a binder. Have it right there for reference. Do it exactly as the instructions say. Don’t hop ahead. I made the mistake of soldering in the frog assembly when it was completed. WRONG!!! It goes in last, just before the guard rails.
I had to unsolder my first attempt a few times. I still have a great trunout, but my next ones will be by the book.
The next time I solder the point rails against the stock rail to the throw bar I will put a slip of wax paper or maybe some .005 styrene between the two. That is the hardest to do without soldering them all together.
I found that I needed to keep working the curve into the curved stock rail before inserting it into the groove or it will go out of gauge when you glue it to the tie strip. It needs to drop into the fixture exactly formed. It you are going to spike them to your own ties, use a couple of guages.
