Oregon legislature allocates money for Coos Bay line
SP applied a philosophy in building both the Coos Bay and Tillamook Bay branch lines which increased the number of bridges on the lines. They built the two lines across the Coast Range to service a coastal region and then built south across the drainages to serve additional coastal regions. This was a cheaper way to keep competition at bay than to build across the mountains at additional locations.
