Oregon, Washington sign passenger rail agreement

How about longer sidings and/or doubletracking segments of the old SP line between Portland and Eugene? Vast discrepancy in track and traffic conditions between Washington (former NP/BNSF track, twin main lines all the way to Seattle) and Oregon (single track south of Brooklyn yard).

Too bad rehab of the old sp line to medford and Ashland isn’t being considered

Why do these “improvements” always seem to leave Southern Oregon (Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford, & Ashland) out in the cold. We, down here in the State of Jefferson, don’t even have a Thruway Bus connection north to Eugene. Not a very convenient alternative to driving Interstate 5 all the way to Portland.

Looks like Oregon and Washington have their acts together. Other states should take notice. Scott Walker pull your head out of where the sun doesn’t shine!

I agree with you people who would love to see service provide on the old Siskiyou Line. That line would need a major upgrade to make more condusive for passenger service. First of all, it’s jointed rail, many sharp curves thus limiting speed. No I don’t think it would totally a lost cause but the task would be very daunting. That’s the reason Espee spun the Siskiyou Line off.

Hopefully, all existing and future improvements will also benefit The Coast Starlight as well, giving it a higher speed as well.

… because the old Siskiyou line from Eugene to Ashland is so hilly and curvy it’s unsuitable for passenger service. That’s why SP built the Natron Cutoff to K Falls in the first place.

I agree with some others. There should be some kind of limited connection with Southern Oregon.Bus at first then if things grow then train service.

I don’t think the corridor decision has been made in Oregon between the SP line and the BNSF line.

Strange, no mention of service north of Seattle to Everett, and bellingham and possible contiuation into Vancouver, BC. Now if they would just put up cthe overhead wire for power unit…

I just wish we could get our hands on those two Talgos sitting around because New Jersey xcelled the program. We could make 'em pay dividends.
