It sounds like a smart move to combine the two agencies into one partnership. Surely there will be savings. It is very exciting to hear of the success and optimistic future for this route. I hope they reach their goals. I also hope to get up there and go for a ride sometime.
Hey, Illinois and Wisconsin, are you reading this?
Good news for what is already a great ride.
I hope they can find a way to add capacity to the Portland area of the route. When riding the Cascades the slowest part I’ve witnessed is ride from Portland to Vancouver. It took almost as long to get across the Columbia River as it did to get from there to Seattle.
This train is a gem ! The ride is smooth and the scenery stunning. The on board crew were courtious and couldn’t do enough to make my family comfortable. Amtrak could learn a lot from Washington and Oregon’s success.
Mr. Larry Sloan,
Know what you are saying. I will be in the Portland area in June and plan to take a day trip on the Cascades to Seattle and back. Cheap entertainment for a day. Hope I can ride on one of the new Talgo train sets.
Unfortunately, there are still no plans to connect Southwest Oregon (including the populous urban areas of Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford, and Ashland) with the Amtrak Cascades system. Currently, there is not even a Thruway Bus feeder for North- bound travelers requiring a 200 mile automobile journey followed by a big, expensive parking problem.
In having a joint powers agreement, this is what California did for its successful Capitol Corridor. however, this will be the first time that this is done between partnering states.I intend to take a vacation there in the next year or two and look forward to riding the new trains.
