What the heck does this have to do with trains!!![:O] Just kidding of course! That is pretty awesome. I’ve seem eagles along the Missouri. They’re quite majestic in flight. It’s hard to believe our founding fathers once considerd the turkey for our national symbol![:I]
You know on one of my trips I met a guy who said he was a nuclear engineer & that in MIssouri at one of the plants there there are a slew of them cause the water coming out of the plant is warm. He was on his way to Florida to check out the Turkey point plaint south of Miami. This plant is the home to the American Crocodile which is a endangered specie also like the B/eagle
Here’s another eagle’s nest you can watch on the other side of the continent. The first egg hatched yesterday (4/10/06) and the second one should hatch Thursday (4/13/06). http://www.nu.com/eagles/default.asp
I seem to have an “over-supply” of pigeons in my neighborhood. Now, with a great big a***ree in the back yard, I could have a dream home for Mr. and Mrs. Eagle. The third floor windows would be perfect for an eagle cam! Should I put out the “Nest for rent sign”?[;)]
I’ve seen a couple of bald eagles here in my area - they’re enough to make you stop what you are doing and just watch. Which is what I did, right in the middle of the road one day. Fortunately it was the less travelled road…
This reminds me of one time my dad and I were up in Hinkle yard. There was a big bald eagle nest on one of the tall light poles. A UP employee pulled up next to us and asked if we were there to see the bird. Well we went along with it and said yea sure. But as soon as we started pointing our cameras at the trains he copped an attitude and I thought he was going to kick us out of there. He didn’t though. I guess they don’t care if your on there property as long as it’s for bird watching.
Lately over the winter months we have quite a few bald eagles hanging around the Cedar River south of town, where the UP transcon crosses it. Makes for a neat diversion between trains. We’ve had some falcons raised on the rooftops downtown as well, not sure if any of them are still around.
Our neighborhood has been the home of a big barn owl recently- looked up in the neighbor’s tree a couple of nights ago while I was watering some new grass seed, and saw him perched up there. Awesome sight as well…
Yes, I think we actually have too many of them. They are depleting our Great Blue Herons (by going after their young).
They all leave in early September with their own young to the spawning grounds up north. They then come back 3 weeks later without the young. (Perhaps parents should do that with teenagers.)[;)]
During the rest of the year I could probably see one any time I wanted.
Do you know if this is a live streaming web cam or video that is then supplied when you access the site? The reason for the question is I accessed the site at 0730 EDT & it show the it was lite there & you could see the eagle but supposely the nest is on Hornby Island in BC which at the least is 3 hours behind Eastern time so it should have been pitch dark when I logged in this AM.
